About Us

Broken Piece Games™ (Formerly Spiderpark Games) is a video game production studio started in January of 2021. Now, let's get to know the studio a little better:

Our Goals: Our biggest goal is just to make games and have fun. All the games on the site are completely free. No download costs, no in-game costs, no costs anywhere. Why? Because we don't do game development for money, we do it to make something cool, put something new in the world, and have a great time working together to do it. For us, game development is not about the money, it's about the fun people get out of our games.

Our Team: I would put little bits of info here about our development team but the truth is, we don't have a permanent team. we get help from friends and family, and we mix and match them to get the team we need for the job. If we need art, we have the artists help. If we need puzzles, we have the puzzlers help, etc.

Our Schedule: Our production schedule and process generally looks something like this:

      1. Have an idea - this could be just a little character, or a whole world idea. It could even just be a mechanic we came up with. Whatever it is, we can't make a game unless we have the first spark of the creative fire.
      2. Plan the game - Now that we know the pearl at the center of the oyster that is our game, we have to start planning. This usually takes on one of two forms. The first is that we have a couple quick brainstorming sessions and take the best ideas, then string them together. The second is more common: we sit around for a week or two, sketching out levels, planning out game logic, deciding on style, and other big creative and technical decisions.
      3. Now comes the fun (and sometimes painful) part: Putting things together. Writing code, building the logic, drawing characters, making animations, testing, testing, more testing, accidentally breaking code, fixing code, testing again, adding music, and much, much more.
      4. The last step, once the game has been built, is to have the computer compile all the files into one little folder that holds the app inside it. Then, we put it here on our website so you can download and play it. After that, we fix bugs, answer feedback, and plan the next game!
This whole process takes different times depending on the game. Roll-a-Ball Obstacle Course took about a month or two, other games might take longer or shorter, depending on how long they are, their style, and how much of previous games we can reuse (for example, a code file for using the walking animations and moving the character)

Why we do this: If game development is such a long and involved process, why do we go to the trouble? Well, it's because we like the final product, and hopefully have some fun and get ideas along the way. We don't do it for money (we just keep it around as a hobby. that's part of why our production takes as much time as it does. We can't be working on the game every waking second), we just like making games, sending them out into the world, and seeing what people think. If they like it, we must've done something right. If they didn't like it, how could we make sure other games are more enjoyable? It's all just a loop. And as always, play games, and have fun!
